This trimester in English we focused on Lord of the Flies. This book is an amazing book that makes us question whether or not man is inherently good or evil. The main characters of the book are Piggy, Ralph, Jack, Simon, Samneric, and other boys. These boys crashed on the island after their plane was shot down. Some of the boys were killed on the crash while other survived. The ones that survived had to make a choice between evil and good. In the book, Piggy, Simon and another boy have been killed. Some of the boys understood that evil was amongst all of them and others became evil.
This is a new trimester in English class, and we started a new book called Night by Elie Wiesel. Elie is a holocaust survivor that wrote a memoir about the concentration camp. I really believe that this is the best book I have ever read so far, and I have never cried this much whilst reading a book. We have also started a project that is wroth 30 percent of our grade. For this project, we have to focus about something that lacks human rights. We then have to choose 7 genres of writing and use them to describe our project. The topic I have chosen is Child Soldiers and I am finding it extremely interesting. I have already finished a double voice poem and I am currently working on my persuasive essay. This trimester in English, we will also be focusing on film studies which I am very impatient for.
This trimester in English we each chose a Human Rights Project. I decided to choose child soldiers as it deeply touched me. The fight wars that they do not understand and end up dying. They are abducted by the militia from their homes when they are extremely young. They are then forced to kill their parents so that even if they want to escape, they will have no home to go to, and even if they did, they would be too ashamed to do so. During this whole trimester I have researched about these children that hold guns that are taller than them, and it had touched me very much.
CHILD SOLDIERS
This trimester in English we are reading an extremely interesting book, which is called To Kill A Mockingbird and it is written by Harper Lee. This book talks about Scout Finch, Jem Finch as well as Atticus Finch. Atticus is a lawyer and he defends a negroe who is called Tom Robinson. He was accused of raping Mayella Ewell. When he goes to court, it is extremely hard for Atticus to defend Tom, because Tom is black and at that time in the South, people were extremely racist.
